The 10th Sikh Guru – Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj blessed us mortals with the gift of Amrit (Sikh initiation ceremony) on 1 Vaisaakh (13th of April) 1699. It was at this time that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji asked a mass congregation of Sikhs to give their heads as a sacrifice. Out of a crowd of 1000’s only 5 gave their heads:

  1. Bhai Daya Singh Ji
  2. Bhai Dharam Singh Ji
  3. Bhai Himmat Singh Ji
  4. Bhai Mohkam Singh Ji
  5. Bhai Sahib Singh Ji

These 5 are referred to as the ‘Panj Pyare’ or ‘5 Beloved Ones’. After giving their heads to the Guru, they were initiated with Amrit. Guru Ji told the Sikh congregation that the mission started by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj regarding Simran (remembrance of Waheguru) and Seva (self-less service) would continue through the Khalsa (Sikh community). Simran can be practised through meditation, singing hyms accompanied with instruments (Kirtan), reading daily prayers (Nitnem). Seva can be practised serving in the Langar, cleaning the shoes of those who visit the Gurdwara, maintaining hygiene within the Gurdwara by cleaning the floor etc. and protecting the poor and unable from harm.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was very proud of Bhai Daya Singh Ji for being the first Sikh to sacrifice is head for the Guru. Guru Ji gave Bhai Sahib a holy prophecy, that one day there will be a institution named after Bhai Daya Singh Ji, whose successors of the lineage’s leadership will be wise holy men practising excess meditation, they will be detached materialistic worldly possessions and will live up to the word of the Guru – Gurbani. These holy men will serve their country and community through many aspects and one day this institution will be renown worldwide for the great Mahapurkh (holy men) who have served within it.
The successors of this lineage upon receiving the leadership title have never stayed in one place and as the leadership is passed down, are constantly on the move, spreading Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s philosophy and Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Hukam (order) to the worldwide Sikh Sangat.
The Lineage is as follows –
