This blog is a humble attempt at showcasing some events in the life of Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj (Rara Sahib Wale) and highlighting the worldwide seva done by Sant Baba Mann Singh Ji (Pehowa Wale) and Sant Baba Mohan Singh Ji (Pehowa Wale)
During the Indian and Pakistani partition of 1947, there was a lot terror across the country where both Hindus and Muslims would ruthlessly murder each other and conduct other crimes. Many travellers who had to move from Pakistan (including some Muslims as well) took sanctuary at Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj’s house of equality by arriving at Gurdwara Karamsar (Rara Sahib) and eating Langar. At this time, Sevadaar’s were on full alert and Langar was being served to these victims 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The expenses of running such large amounts of Langar was also very high and so many poor dedicated individuals resorted to stealing flour and cattle to offer it as Seva to the Rara Sahib Langar. However, Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj (Rara Sahib Wale) didn’t believe in accepting such offerings, even in such time of desperation. Instead, Sant Ji Maharaj ordered those who had stolen these goods to return them to who they rightfully belonged to.
The forest fire has burnt down so much of the grass; how rare are the plants which have remained green.
Regardless of whether one was rich or poor, regardless of whether one was Hindu or Muslim, all were served equally in accordance to the code of conduct of the Gurdwara. All are given respect in the house of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj.
Sant Ji Maharaj saved many individuals from being attacked by mobs with their own hands and sent Singh’s from their Jatha to safely escort Muslim families to the ‘Malerkotla’ border. It is said that at the time of the Shaheedi of Shote Sahibzade, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj prophesied such happenings to Sher Muhammad.
Sant Ji Maharaj in their youth
Many victims arrived at Rara Sahib seeking help, one such case was that of four Muslim siblings. A Muslim boy aged 9 years old, his brother aged 7 years old, his sister aged 5 years old and his youngest sister aged 2.5 years. These four young children witnessed both of their parents murdered in front of their own eyes and had fortunately escaped being murdered. They all spent a whole night hiding in the fields and after they couldn’t face hunger any longer, they arrived at Rara Sahib. The oldest boy explained what had happened to Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj who embraced all of the children and blessed them with the contentment to believe that everything will be alright. Sant Ji Maharaj addressed the children and said: “Remove the fear of death from your minds, you have arrived at such a place that even the Jamdhoot’s of Dharam Raaj are unable to touch you!”
the Righteous Judge says, “Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death, or else neither you nor I shall escape!” ||1||
These children then spent many years doing selfless service at Rara Sahib. And so, it was in such terrible times that Sant Ji Maharaj served the nationwide community free from any personal benefits or desires. Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj also increased the time they spent in meditation during these times and would rarely sleep. Instead, Sant Ji Maharaj would dedicated their night and day, praying for these troubled individuals through Simran. Even in times of chaos and trouble – Rara Sahib shined through as a centre of peace and harmony.
