Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Jio,
Dr Preetam Singh one day began to suffer immense stomach pains and decided that he wouldn’t attend work that day. However a phone call then came from the hospital requesting Dr Preetam Singh to arrive at the hospital as a patient was in need of a urgent operation. If Dr Preetam Singh didn’t go there was a danger of the patient dying.
Dr Preetam Singh went to Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj and explained that he needed to attend work as a patient required an operation however due to having immense stomach pains, he didn’t want to go. Sant Ji Maharaj insisted Dr Preetam Singh attend work and gave him a spoon of Chooran to drink with water.
Dr Preetam Singh attended his duty and carried out the operation all day, whilst on the other hand, Sant Ji Maharaj’s stomach began to hurt immensely, the pain had been transferred from Dr Preetam Singh to Sant Ji Maharaj.
Sevadars then phoned Dr Preetam Singh and explained that Sant Ji Maharaj was experiencing immense grief from stomach pains to which Dr Preetam Singh immediately realised that Sant Ji Maharaj had taken his pain upon themselves. Dr Preetam Singh brought a team of Doctors with him and after examining Sant Ji Maharaj said, “Maharaj Ji, you have exactly the same problem that I had this morning!?”
Sant Ji Maharaj laughed and said: “I thought to myself – you have a very busy day ahead of yourself, whereas I am free all day, so I thought I may as well transfer your pain upon myself…”
Sant Mahapurkh are above the boundaries of life and death. Their manifestation of the human body is simply to serve the Sangat with. In the Rara Sahib Samparda, many Mahapurkh have ‘Jal Pravah’ (burial in water) as opposed to cremation, the reason for this is that even after they leave their human body they are still able to serve nature, as the fishes and sea animals are able to consume the remains of the Mahapurkh’s body. And so, from the beginning until the end of a Mahapurkh’s Jeevan, they dedicate all they have in service of others. Sant Baba Mann Singh Ji (Pehowa Wale) was questioned by some devotees as to why they sleep very rarely and why they dont take a rest from their duties. Baba Ji explained that Sant Ji Maharaj had taught them that ‘Rest is equivalent to death’. Sant Baba Mann Singh Ji explained that henceforth they dedicate their life in service of the Sangat, if they finish doing Kirtan or farming, they engage in their own meditation, they never waste a single moment of their human life. They live to serve Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and the Guru Roop SaadhSangat, and so as illustrated in the above Saakhi, Sant Mahapurkh happily endure the pain of others…
Please forgive us for any mistakes…
