Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Jio,
‘Seth’ Middoo Mal was an income tax officer. One day he was passing Gurdwara Karamsar, Rara Sahib alongside driver Bhagat Singh (who was a class fellow of Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj). Middoo Mal decided to visit Sant Ji Maharaj at Rara Sahib however in his mind was keen to leave as soon as possible as he had a long journey ahead of him. Sant Ji Maharaj told Middoo Mal to spend the night at Rara Sahib and rest before going on such a long journey. However, someone who is heavily indulged in worldly affairs finds it very difficult to understand the Bachan of Sant Mahapursh. Middoo Mal ignored Sant Ji Maharaj’s advice and instead proceeded to his journey.
Middoo Mal and Bhagat Singh’s car had just left Rara Sahib when shortly after Middoo Mal started speaking unfaithful words. Bhagat Singh warned Middoo Mal to not speak bad to which the two engaged in an argument. Middoo Mal put his hands on the wheel – causing it to steer out of control and straight into a river. Luckily, a few local Sevadar’s saw the car in the river and without worrying about the cold icy waters of February, jumped into the water and took Middoo Mal and Bhagat Singh outside of the car. The Sevadars took both men and lay them down on dry blankets.
Shote Maharaj Sant Baba Kishan Singh Ji heard of the news and quickly arrived alongside a few Jatha Singhs. The two men were placed upside down to remove water that was inside their stomachs. The Jatha Singhs then fed the men with milk and warm tea and gave them fresh new clothes and even recovered their car from the water.
Seth Middoo Mal remembered the unfaithful words he had uttered and realised that it was a result of his bad actions that all this had happened. Meddoo Mal felt very ashamed and decided he would apologise to Sant Ji Maharaj the next morning for not listening to their Bachan. Sant Ji Maharaj told Meddoo Mal: “Due to having Darshan of the Sangat your Sooli became a Sool*(see below) and you survived, had you listened to my Bachan yesterday than this Sool wouldn’t have occurred…”

*In Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s time two shopkeepers were travelling, one was going to meet Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj and the other was going to a bad place. The man going to the bad place found a gold jewel in a bag of rocks. The man who was going to meet Guru Maharaj hurt himself with a thorn. The man going to the bad place questioned why he who was going to the bad place was rewarded and he who was going to the good place was punished. They visited Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj who explained:
“You the man who has found the gold jewel, in your previous life you had committed such good deeds that you were destined to find a whole bag full of golden jewels. However due to you visiting a bad place your reward was reduced. You the man who has been hurt with a thorn, you had committed such bad deeds that you were destined to be hanged in this life. However due to you visited a good place your punishment was reduced. Your present actions have the ability to change your previous actions…”
Please forgive us for any mistakes.
