Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Jio,
In 1967, Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj went to U.P. in continuation of their nationwide Nirbaan Kirtan Updesh. Sant Ji Maharaj was carrying out Kirtan Seva in towns such as Hapur and Mereth. During this time, there was a drastic flood near Nanak Matta Sahib Gurdwara – the water was reported to be 15 foot high. Many people died due to this floor – homes, possessions and farm animals were destroyed. Those who managed to survive had nothing left and were homeless. The local government attempted to provide help but could only do so to a limited extent.
It was then, Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj dedicated their ‘Tan, Man, Dhan’ (body, mind and wealth) in order to restore happiness into the lives of these villagers. Many would come to Sant Ji Maharaj and speak of their hardships and cry for help. Sant Ji Maharaj dedicated the rest of their tour to support these people. Answering their pleas, Sant Ji Maharaj ordered Bhai Malkit Singh of Hapur and Baba Waryam Singh Ji to help distribute high quality blankets and duvets to all those in immediate need.
Sant Ji Maharaj then ordered Sardar Chanan Singh Kherhe to help distribute utensils such as plates, bowls, glasses from Muraadaabaad to all those who required it. Giani Mohan Singh Ji ‘Azaad’ comments on this event: “Sant Ji Maharaj’s heart could not bare anyone else’s pain and would use all their resources to eliminate other’s pain…”
