Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Jio,
Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj (Rara Sahib Wale) once went to Calcutta, where they had Divaans scheduled for 15 days. After 7 days of Kirtan, Sant Ji Maharaj told the Sangat that they are going to cancel the remaining Kirtan Divaans.
The Sangat became very anxious and asked Sant Ji Maharaj as to why they were going to do this. Sant Ji Maharaj explained that their ‘merchandise’ isn’t selling. The Sangat requested for Sant Ji Maharaj to explain what this merchandise was. Sant Ji Maharaj explained that the merchandise they are trying to sell is that of ‘Amrit Di Daat’ and that they wish for as many as possible to become the Guru’s beloved ones. The Sangat of Calcutta told Sant Ji Maharaj of a very rich transporter.
The Sangat explained that if this transporter was to take amrit, the whole of Calcutta would take Amrit. Sant Ji Maharaj asked for this man to be called immediately. The rich transporter arrived in Sant Ji Maharaj’s Charan and asked Sant Ji Maharaj to bless them with Seva. In his mind he thought, that if Sant Ji Maharaj asks for 50,000 rupees, he will happily give it.
Sant Ji Maharaj answered that they want Seva from him. The man folded his hands and begged for Sant Ji Maharaj to do the order, in his mind he thought that if Sant Ji Maharaj asks for 100,000 rupees he will happily give it. Sant Ji Maharaj answered that they want Seva from him. In his mind, the man thought that if Sant Ji Maharaj asks for 200,000-400,000 rupees, he will happily give it.
Sant Ji Maharaj answered yet again that they want a very large Seva from him, The fourth time the man yet again folds his hands again and begs Sant Ji Maharaj to give him the order. Sant Ji Maharaj answered, “We do not need any money, it is of no use to us, so you might aswell stop making the money estimations in your head. The Seva we want from you is to give up alcohol and meat and become part of the Khalsa.” The man felt such pain in his heart, that he immediately fell in Sant Ji Maharaj’s Charan and vowed to take Amrit.
From this Sakhi we learn a number of things, one of them being that Sant Mahapurkh are not hungry for money but are instead hungry for love. Sant Ji Maharaj through their Antarjaamta (all-knowingness) gathered that the man was offering large amounts of money in order to fulfil his Seva. However, Sant Ji Maharaj ignored the possibility of acquiring large amounts of money and instead focused on joining the man with Sikhi and Guru Sahib in order to spiritually benefit as many individuals as possible.
