Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Jio,

In the year 1962, the political situation within Punjab was deteriorating and college strikes had began throughout Punjab. The chief minister during this time was Giani Zail Singh. Acknowledging that Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj were a Pooran Mahapurkh, he decided to come meet Sant Ji Maharaj. Being a Chief Minister, it’s a social norm to expect respect when going somewhere and perhaps it was due to this that Giani Zail Singh had a sense of pride within him. As Giani Zail Singh proceeded forward to bow to Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, Sant Ji Maharaj changed the mood of the Kirtan and read the Dharna:

Koiee Hari De Smaan Nei Raaja, Choote Raaje Chaar Hon Ge (There is no King which can compare to the Lord Waheguru, there may be a few false kings)

After Sant Ji Maharaj had finished Kirtan, they went back to the Bhora Sahib. Giani Zail Singh asked present Sevadars whether or not he be allowed to meet Sant Ji Maharaj. Sant Ji Maharaj was not bothered with a persons status or fame and it was normal for Sant Ji Maharaj to dismiss many politicians from speaking with them, including Prime Ministers such as Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.

The present Sevadaars explained to Sant Ji Maharaj that Giani Zail Singh was outside and that he wished to meet with Sant Ji Maharaj. Sant Ji Maharaj was not the slightest amused and it even seemed as though they weren’t very bothered. Sant Ji Maharaj asked why he wished to speak with them. The Sevadaars suggested that it may be due to the fact that he is a politician and that perhaps he wanted something done. Sant Ji Maharaj agreed and a chair was brought for him to sit on.

Giani Zail Singh immediately fell at the feet of Sant Ji Maharaj. Sant Ji Maharaj suggested that he sit on the chair, to which Giani Zail Singh replied – “I am not worthy enough to sit on your level, I will sit at your feet, below you.” Giani Zail Singh then folded his hands and asked whether this was any specific Seva he could perform.

Sant Ji Maharaj replied: “Seva? You speak of Seva? I don’t have one specific Seva for you to do I’ve got a whole list. Wash the dishes of the Sangat after they have eaten Langar and after that clean their shoes, that is your Seva.”

If we look at the current situation of some today, we will often see many Sants falling at the feet of politicians in return for fame or perhaps money. However Sant Ji Maharaj was completely the opposite of this and were in no way hungry for attention from famous people of this false world. For someone to order a chief minister of a state around as though he is nothing, is a capability only Pooran Mahapurkh such as Sant Ji Maharaj Sant Isher Singh Ji can ensure. Sant Mahapurkh and even our Gurus were not interested with the famous, the strong and the rich. These Holy beings come into our world to support the poor and weak. Sant Mahapurkh are always prepared to support those who have no one to look to.

When Sant Ji Maharaj left for their heavenly abode, Giani Zail Singh within a gathering of a large amount of people, spoke on the  microphone, his lips were frozen and he was just able to speak. He said – “There are 4 Vedas which were narrated by Brahma. Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj was the 5th Ved!”

Please forgive us for any mistakes.
