Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Jio,

Sant Ji Maharaj

Sant Ji Maharaj

When Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj (Rara Sahib Wale) first went to Bathinda to carry out Nirban Kirtan Updesh they encountered a number of obstacles. The people who would attend the Kirtan Divaans were very uneducated and ill-mannered. When Sant Ji Maharaj first sat down to start the Kirtan, instead of sitting cross-legged, the Sangat sat down on the weight of their two feet – a very uncomfortable and awkward position to say the least. Sant Ji Maharaj themselves had to explain to the Sangat on how to sit in Darbar Sahib in a manner that is of utmost respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.

Sant Ji Maharaj began the Kirtan with the Dharna – “Aiyo Laaha Lehn, Praani Aiyo Hai” (you are to here to experience bliss, O’ mortal). Instead of adhering to this, the Sangat began singing, “Aiyo Faaha Lehn, Haraami Aiyo Hai” (you are here to commit suicide, you wicked person). Sant Ji Maharaj then had to invest heavy efforts into teaching these individuals ‘Rehni, Behni, Kehni and Sehni’ (how to stay, sit, speak and endure as a Sikh – in other words how a Sikh is to behave).

Regardless of the fact that Sant Ji Maharaj was subject to such treatment and was to witness such disrespect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and themselves, Sant Ji Maharaj did not give up and remained determined in teaching these individuals the right way. Had it been a normal Parcharak they may have perhaps given up and left, but despite all these obstacles and tests, Sant Ji Maharaj persevered and remained determined to investing their efforts in serving the Sangat.

Please forgive us for any mistakes.
