Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Ji,

Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Maharaj (Rara Sahib Wale) once shared the following regarding the importance and significance of ‘Karah Parshad Di Degh’ (a portion of sweet mixture that is given to the congregation when visiting the Gurdwara.

Sant Ji Maharaj said: “If an individual is to consume Karah Parshad Di Degh in the final 40 days of his life, he cannot be bound to hell…”

The above Bachan by Sant Ji Maharaj regarding Degh reinforces the importance of such practises that we may consider to not hold much significance. The value of doing Darshan of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and partaking in Sikh practises is beyond our understanding.

Sant Ji Maharaj teaches us within their Kirtan Diwaans that the moment an individual begins considering the thought of going to the Gurdwara, that individual begins developing good deeds. The moment an individual leaves for the Gurdwara Sahib up until the moment the individual arrives home, Sant Ji Maharaj stated that all of that time spent is worthwhile and that even the travelling process counts as a practise that produces spiritual wealth (Kamaiee). Sant Ji Maharaj further mentions in many Kirtan Diwaans that the steps we take on the path to meet our Guru, upon each step we take on the path we receive the equivalent to the spiritual reward obtained from conducting an Asmedh Yag, so if we are to take 10 steps to the Gurdwara Sahib, we will receive the spiritual profit of conducting 10 Asmedh Yag’s. An Asmedh Yag was carried out in previous ages and was a long process that involved having to feed a whole entire town with full devotion in order to achieve spiritual reward.

And so, the value of simply travelling towards our Guru and partaking in devotional worship is above our intellect and is something we are all perhaps guilty of not appreciating. By appreciating Guru Sahib’s blessings, we strive to conduct Seva & Simran with more faith and devotion, and the worship we conduct as such, brings about the most spiritual rewards and is more fruitful.
