Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Jio,
Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji (Reru Sahib Wale) and Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji (Mastuana Wale) on one of their regular meetings, discussed Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji (Rara Sahib Wale). Sant Reru Sahib Wale praised Sant Mastuana Wale’s Kirtan and requested Sant Mastuana Wale to bestow Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji with a similar ability to conduct Kirtan. Sant Mastuana Wale insisted that they themselves lacked any virtues and that Sant Reru Sahib Wale should bestow their blessings on Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji instead.
After having this same discussion three-four times, Sant Reru Sahib Wale proceeded to say: “If you say it is I who should bless Isher Singh, then fine. All the blessings that were bestowed upon me by Sant Baba Karam Singh Ji (Hoti Mardan Wale), I now pass on to Isher Singh!” Hearing this, Sant Mastuana Wale uttered a similar blessing: “If you have passed on all your blessings to Isher Singh then I too pass on my ability to do Kirtan upon Isher Singh! His Kirtan will be renown throughout the world, wherever he will sit and conduct Kirtan, masses of Sangat will attend and attain peace…”
Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji Mastuana Wale transformed ‘Pind Deeya Boleeya’ (village rhymes) into Dharna Kirtan as a means by which Sikhs could easily read and understand the meanings of Gurbani. When Sant Mastuana Wale conducted Kirtan, their voice could be heard from a distance of five miles, that too without the assistance of a microphone. When Sant Attar Singh Ji Mastuana Wale started Dharna Kirtan, Ragi Singh’s questioned them and asked why they had neglected conducting Kirtan in Raag format, the Ragi Singh’s assumed that Sant Mastuana Wale lacked the ability to sing Kirtan in Raag and so resorted to conducting Kirtan in such a simple format. Sant Mastuana Wale replied the following: “It is correct that Gurbani was blessed in Raag to us, however the complex nature of Raag Kirtan makes it difficult for those who have not studied Raag to sing along with it and furthermore understand Gurbani. Dharna Kirtan makes it easy for Sangat to sing and understand…” Sant Mastuana Wale then ordered the Raagi Singh to grab the tabla whilst they sang Raag themselves. The Raag that Sant Mastuana Wale chose to sang was so complex that the Singh was unable to play tabla in tune to it. Thus the Raagi’s Singhs were assured that Sant Mastuana Wale did not lack the ability to conduct Raag Kirtan and had resorted to Dharna Kirtan for the benefit of the wider public. And thus, this priceless gift of Kirtan and Parchar was passed on to Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji (Rara Sahib Wale) by Sant Baba Attar Singh Ji (Mastuana Wale)
Please forgive us for any mistakes.
